Just finished reading The Fort by Bernard Cornwell. It's a true-life page turner set during the American War of Independence and Cornwell (famous for the Sharpe stories) proves he can pretty much do what Anthony Beevor does, novelising historical events into a compelling and informative narrative. My mum bought it for me because she liked it, so it's not just for war nerds.
